The Honolulu Festival attracts over 5000+participants and 30,000 visitors to events held over the 3 days of the festival. Cultural groups participating in the event are assured of an audience gathering to watch their performance. The Annual Honolulu Festival is Hawaii’s foremost cultural event showcasing the multi-ethnic diversity of the Pacific Rim and Hawaii. Volunteer hours: Check-in at 3:30 pm; end time approximately 8 pm, and we hope volunteers will enjoy the festival events before and after the parade!

Location: The parade starts near the Waikiki Post Office at Fort DeRussy park grounds fronting Kalakaua Avenue and ends at the Honolulu Zoo (1 mile)

Parade Marching: The Hawaii Lions will be a marching unit and poised near the front of the parade. For those that are capable and have the endurance to walk the parade again, we were asked by the Honolulu Festival coordinators for additional help and will be shuttled back to the start of the parade to support additional “Duties”. Estimated finish time for marchers is 5:30pm. There will be a Robert’s school bus shuttle available. Location to be determined.

Line-up time: For both fresh volunteers and those on their second round, it is 6pm and will start float duties at 6:30pm.

2024 Honolulu Festival Lions Commemorative Pin

Duties: Volunteer assignments include directing attendees to event venues, handing out pamphlets, holding placards and signs while marching in the parade, and even helping to move a flying dragon, a “Neputa” float, and a fire-breathing dragon along the parade route! Volunteers for the last few floats will be asked to mask since they will all be marching in close proximity. Masks will be provided at the volunteer sign-in table (parade start) . Please see screenshot below. The latter assignments are reserved for volunteers who are in good health and able to lift 50 lbs.

Attire: Comfortable clothes and covered footwear. Hat optional.

Transportation: We suggest public transportation, or drop off and pick up as parking is on your own.

Volunteer Mahalo: Parade volunteers will receive a commemorative 28th Honolulu Festival T-shirt and a McDonald’s meal coupon. Please indicate T-shirt size [S–> 2XL] when contacting Lion Daryl.

PARADE MARCHERS: Participants will receive a commemorative “Honolulu Festival Parade” Lions pin design by Lion Mel Tom.

FIREWORKS SHOW: After the parade kicking off at 8:30pm is the spectacular Nagaoka Fireworks Show at Kuhio Beach.
